Still I Rise Program

The Still I Rise (SIR) program at ECRC supports racialized women and gender-diverse individuals affected by violence, with a focus on those facing barriers to safe and culturally responsive care. SIR provides trauma-informed, strength-based supports grounded in anti-oppressive practice, narrative therapy, and Afrocentric approaches. Guided by an advisory committee of individuals with lived experience, the program supports participants to heal, rebuild confidence, establish healthy boundaries, and move toward resilience. Participants can access self-paced workshops through our partner, the Manitoba Association of Women’s Shelters (MAWS) website.

Overview

Knowledge Mobilization

In partnership with the newcomer and anti-violence sectors, including shelters, we develop a hybrid model of service delivery to expand reach, improve access, and increase awareness across diverse communities. Through ongoing collaboration with community members and sector partners, we strengthen connections across systems and mobilize knowledge to better respond to community needs.

Workshops

In partnership with ethnocultural groups and community organizations, we offer workshops focused on the multifaceted needs of racialized women experiencing or at risk of gender-based violence (GBV). Workshop topics include female empowerment, healthy boundaries, conflict resolution, attachment, healing from GBV, and self-esteem.

Case Management Supports

We provide trauma-informed case management to individuals experiencing or at risk of gender-based violence (GBV), grounded in anti-oppressive, narrative, and Afrocentric approaches. We support individuals in navigating housing, legal, health, and social systems—including safety planning, goal setting, and referrals—while prioritizing dignity, choice, and culturally responsive care.
